The Sunday Alternative is a secular congregation that meets regularly to Live Better, Wonder More and Help Often.

The Sunday Alternative is the perfect home for those wanting to join a community where the complications of religion and politics are left at the door. But ideas, emotions and voices are shared.

The Assembly is a place to meet new people in a nonjudgmental space where we seek to find the common humanity that binds people. And what's more, there are the best cakes you'll find anywhere on a Sunday moring.

Activities

We run various regular and ad-hoc events, including a monthly assembly, coffee mornings, philosophy and music groups.

You can find all our regular events on Meetup, while ad-hoc events are in our WhatsApp groups. Come to an event to get the address.

Assemblies

This is the important event that makes The Sunday Alternative special.

There is typically one assembly a month, held on the fourth Sunday of the month (except August) at the Rising Sun Arts Centre.

Doors open at 10:30 am for an 11 am start.

If you're looking for a good time, look no further than The Sunday Alternative assembly! We're a bunch of secular legends who meet monthly in Reading to celebrate life.

We're about Living Better, Helping Often, and Wondering More, and we do it for one reason only - to make the most of this one life we've got. We're diverse characters, so you're bound to meet some cracking new mates.

Our mornings are chock-a-block with singing, games, interesting chats, and scoffing cake. Plus, it's inclusive - we welcome anyone, regardless of age or background. It won't cost you a penny if pennies are hard to come by, as we run entirely on donations.

If you're feeling peckish, we've got that covered too. Come early, which is also the best way to meet new people, grab a cuppa, and tuck into some homemade vegan-friendly treats.

Doors open at 10:30 am for teas and chats. The Assembly begins at 11 am and ends at about 12:15 pm.

Then more coffee and cakes until 1 pm. After we find a pub or a space in the park if the weather is kind.

Coffee Mornings

The Reading Biscuit Factory hosts our Coffee And Catch Up on the second Sunday of the month.

The meeting begins at 11 am and lasts until the last person leaves.

Grab a coffee in the foyer of The Biscuit Factory. We'll be in the middle of the large seating area on the first floor.

The coffee morning is well attended by people of all ages and backgrounds.

Wheelchair accessible. There have been problems with the lift previously so we recommend phoning ahead just to make sure.

Philosophy

The Casual Philosophy Group meets once or twice a month in Reading, typically around 7pm.

Everyone is a philosopher!

We want you (yes, you!) to share your opinion. Everyone gets a chance to speak at Casual Philosophy.
We make philosophy casual and accessible for everyone.

Music

The Why I Love This Song group (WILTS) meets monthly(ish) at the Biscuit Factory.

Why I Love This Song is a discussion meetup where we each explain why we love a particular song. The group aims to learn more about music and each other. This is not a music critique group. It is a learning and appreciation group.
